Not as bad as Starbucks in the Forbidden City, but a close second. Don’t get me wrong, I like Ronald and his beefy friends, but there’s a proper place for everything. Shame on you McDonalds China. Tsk tsk.

I absolutely agree with you! There’s a lot to be said for strict building and advertising codes!

Yeah, that’s quite the eyesore.
It doesn’t really blend in does it? A while back I saw a McDonalds in a small historical town in Germany. I was surprised how well they had managed to blend in with the traditional buildings. This is not quite the same thing though…
It’s so jarring that it seems not real. Make them take it down! (Like they need that sign to attract customers? I mean, come on…)

I like this.
Where’s the “billions served” part of the sign? I would expect that in China that would be “trillions”, no?

Maybe this should bother me more but it does not seem to. The Starbucks in the Forbidden City did not faze me either, though I did not stop in to have an Americano. There were plenty of other shops and street peddlers to contend with (to ward off as I recall, they were so pushy)there as I recall who probably saw Starbucks more as aggressive competition than a sacrilege. The image is gaudy and appalling. I agree. But sadly it seems rather fitting to a culture that has plastered Mickey Mouses and Donald Ducks and Winny the Poohs and Snoopys all the place with no concern to royalties. I think Ronald here has seized a tacky victory.

I guess McDonalds is all over the world now. We have a lot of Chinese resturants here all over New York. I like all different types of food myself.
